Police Withdraw Charges Against Rahmon Adedoyin

The Nigeria Police has issued a notice of discontinuance of charge to the High Court in Gudu, Abuja, ceasing to proceed with the charges levied against Rahmon Adedoyin and nine others over the murder of Timothy Adegoke, the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) MBA student who died under mysterious circumstances in Ile-Ife, Osun State, in November.

In a notice signed by three lawyers from the Legal/Prosecution Section of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), and obtained by FIJ, the police stated that they were striking out the initial charges in a bid to carry out further investigations on the case.

When FIJ contacted Olugbade Adegoke, elder brother of the deceased, he said he had confidence in the police and whatever step they chose to take on the matter.

“I don’t see the development as a cause for concern. We as a family have been clamouring for the case to be brought to Osogbo for continuation,” he said.

Femi Falana, the family lawyer, had written to the Inspector General of Police, asking that the case be transferred to a court of competent jurisdiction in Osun State, where Adegoke was reportedly murdered.
“Everyone is following this case with keen interest, and I am sure that the police would do the right thing by ensuring that justice prevails,” Olugbade added.

Rahmon Adedoyin, the owner of Hilton Hotel and Resort, Ile-Ife, where Adegoke was lodged before death, and some members of the hotel’s staff had been charged for conspiracy to commit murder, murder, conspiracy to commit improper interference with the body of the deceased and intent to destroy evidence.

Adegoke, an Abuja-based chartered accountant, had traveled to Ile-Ife on November 5 to write his MBA exams at the OAU Distance Learning Centre.

He was initially declared missing on November 7, 2021, before his body was later found in a shallow grave at a location very close to Hilton Hotel and Resorts.
