An Ilorin Magistrate Court on Tuesday docked one Oloba Maroof Afolayan who allegedly caused the death of his friend, one Mustapha Balogun.

He was dragged before Magistrate Monisola Kamson for the alleged offences of criminal conspiracy, impersonation and culpable homicide contrary to section 97, 179 and 221 of the Penal code Law.

According to the police information, the wife of the deceased, Mustapha Halimat, recieved a call that her husband fell at his place of work, and had been subsequently rushed to the hospital.

Halimat, through the report, revealed that she discovered that her husband was brought into the hospital dead.

Police investigation however led to the arrest of the defendant (Afolayan) who reportedly traveled down to Samora, his home town with the deceased to perform some family rituals.

The report revealed that the deceased, who was Afolayan’s friend was sick and vomiting but the defendant failed to take him to a nearby hospital for treatment nor report the incident at a police station.

The defendant (Afolayan) reportedly brought the deceased down to Owolabi hospital in Ilorin from his home town and was pronounced dead on arrival.

The prosecutor, Abdullah Sanni, urged the court to order the remand of the defendant in the Correctional facility considering the gravity of the alleged offence which is not ordinarily bailable.

Magistrate Monisola Kamson who presided over the matter, granted the application and ordered Afolayan’s remand in Oke Kure correctional facility while the case was adjourned to 1st March, 2024.
