One Year Remembrance; Sarumi Family In Lagos Call For Justice




As part of preparations marking the upcoming one year remembrance of the enigmatic and promising Ayomide Sarumi whose life was cut short in its prime in an unceremonious circumstance on the 22nd of June 2023, the family of Sarumi, friends and associates are demanding justice from the appropriate government and non governmental authorities .

Ayomide Sarumi, fondly refered to as Haywhy by friends and relations alike was kidnapped during a birthday ceremony of his cousin, Mrs Olayemi Grace Afolabi on the 1st of June 2023 at no 7 Winco Street Off Bakare Oriole Lagos. Lagos state.

His decomposing body was later found in front of his house a couple of weeks after.

The unfortunate kidnap incident happened at the instance of a friends and relatives who had thronged the residence of Mrs Olayemi G. Afolabi to celebrate her in her birthday.

The birthday celebration was however thwarted by the arrival of honourable Ganiyu A. Johnson And a handful of hefty men and some police officers Who had come for the celebrant and her husband following a case of family property believed to have been inherited by Mrs Olayemi G. Afolabi

Eye witness account had it that Ayomide and a friend stood in the way of the  honourable’s men and the police while they were trying to arrest and bundle  the celebrant and her husband.

Ayomide Sarumi and his friend were taken away instead  by the police from the scene but his friend was released not long after on the road that same day.

Efforts to locate Ayomide proved abortive as Ayomide’s body was later deposited in front of his residence at no 36 Bakare Makinde street Oshogun Lagos. Lagos state.

Ayomide Sarumi was said to be a close relative and cousin of Mrs Olayemi G. Afolabi

Mrs Olayemi  G. Afolabi was said to have  run for her dear life along with her husband and two children, vacating her Lagos apartment and thier hard-earned property .


In a bid to get justice for Ayomide and bring the culprits to book, family and friends are planning to stage a peaceful protest along the streets of Bakare Makinde street on the 22nd of June 2025 as part of efforts to commemorate his one year remembrance while also calling on the police and other security agencies to invite and interrogate the honourable for his role in the said incident.
