Who Wins The Battle Of Badges? Police, NSCDC Face Off In Abeokuta

ABEOKUTA – Officers of the Nigeria Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) will be renewing their rivalry when both teams clash in the final of the 5th edition of Ogun SWAN Security Cup Friday at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Enroute to the final, Police Machine thrashed Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) 5-nil while NSCDC edged past the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) team by a lone-goal in the semi-final matches played on Monday at the same venue.

Recall that in 2021, NSCDC beat the Police Machine 1-nil to lift the maiden edition of the annual competition. 

In 2023, the Police officers dislodged the officers of the NSCDC 2-1 in final to win the N.5million prize money as champions of the 3rd edition.

In 2024, the Police Machine continued their dominance over their arch-rival Civil Defence, beating them 4-2 in a penalty shootout in the semi-final.

At this year’s edition, Police Machine proves their resilience and dominance in the competition by beating NSCDC 4-3 in a thrilling group stage encounter on MatchDay 1.

The overpowering Police officers went on to beat the firefighters of Ogun State Fire Service 2-1 to reach the semi final stage.

In the semi final encounter, Police dismantled mounted road block of FRSC with 5-nil to book a place in the final against NSCDC who defeated EFCC 1-0 in the second semi-final match.

The final of the annual football competition being organized by Ogun State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) will hold on Friday by 2pm.
