Ogun 2027: I’ll Support Only a Tested, Visionary Leader — Bode Mustapha Declares Backing For Yayi

By Adeyemi Obadimu
Chief Bode Mustapha, the Osi of Egbaland, has said he will only support a competent, visionary and performance-driven candidate in the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, declaring his backing for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi).
Speaking during a live interview on Splash FM, Abeokuta, with Ayomide Adetunji, popularly known as Mr Quality, the Egba leader stressed that his political support would be guided strictly by competence, track record and capacity to deliver tangible development, not sentiment or lineage.
Chief Mustapha explained that although some governorship aspirants including former Nigerian ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sharafa Tunji Ishola, and former Sports Commissioner, Bukola Olopade share ancestral and family ties with him through Abeokuta, such connections would not influence his political decision.
According to him, equity and performance must take precedence in leadership selection.
“There should be no discrimination based on origin. What matters is the ability to perform, deliver results and move Ogun State forward,” he said.
Commending Senator Adeola, Chief Mustapha described the lawmaker’s developmental interventions across Ogun State, particularly in Yewaland, as outstanding and impactful, noting that his achievements are visible and measurable.
He added that Senator Adeola’s leadership style and consistent performance have clearly distinguished him as a serious contender worthy of broad support.
On the agitation for the governorship to shift to Yewaland in 2027, the Osi of Egbaland said the demand aligns with the principles of equity, fairness and inclusive governance.
He maintained that Yewaland has waited long enough for the opportunity to produce the next governor of the state and that power rotation remains essential for balanced representation and unity in Ogun State.
Chief Mustapha reaffirmed his endorsement of Senator Adeola, insisting that Ogun State deserves a leader who combines competence, vision and proven results.
“Ogun people should elect a governor based on performance and capacity. Only a leader with visible achievements can guarantee progress and sustainable development,” he stated.
Chief Bode Mustapha is a prominent politician, philanthropist and respected Egba leader with significant influence within the All Progressives Congress (APC). He is widely known for his consistent advocacy for good governance and strategic leadership in Ogun State politics.
In recent times, he has been vocal about the need for unity among stakeholders, especially within Egba land, while pushing for performance-based leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
