Group Defends Abiodun’s Legacy, Accuses Gbenga Daniel Of Sponsoring Media Attacks

A political advocacy group under the banner of Sustainability of Ogun State and Dapo Abiodun Legacy Beyond 2027 has accused former Ogun State governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, of allegedly sponsoring coordinated media attacks against Governor Dapo Abiodun over recent political developments in the state.

In a statement signed on Thursday by its Convener, Dr. Arabambi Abayomi, the group described the recent wave of criticism against the governor as “baseless propaganda driven by bitterness and desperation.”

Abayomi said Governor Abiodun’s performance in office, particularly in infrastructure, economic growth, industrial development and political stability, had earned him widespread acceptance across Ogun State and beyond.

According to him, Ogun State has witnessed remarkable economic growth under the current administration, with significant increases in internally generated revenue and investments across various sectors.

The group also pointed to the recent international Hajj operations from the Gateway International Airport as evidence of the governor’s developmental strides.

Abayomi noted that the successful airlift of pilgrims directly from Ogun State to Saudi Arabia marked a historic achievement for the state and positioned Ogun as an emerging aviation hub in the South-West.

Responding to allegations concerning local government funds, the group maintained that the claims had long been addressed and clarified through the Joint Account Allocation Committee process involving local government stakeholders.

“The governor did not divert local government funds as being alleged in sponsored publications. Rather, the state government supported local councils during periods of financial shortfalls to ensure salaries and obligations were met,” the statement said.

The group further alleged that negative articles against the governor often surfaced after political meetings that did not favour Daniel’s camp, insisting that the attacks were aimed at discrediting Abiodun ahead of future political contests.

Abayomi said despite the criticisms, the governor remained focused on governance and sustaining developmental projects across the three senatorial districts of the state.

He urged party faithful and residents of Ogun State to remain focused on performance and continuity, rather than political distractions.

“The people of Ogun State can see the roads, industries, investments and infrastructural projects across the state. These achievements cannot be erased by sponsored attacks and online propaganda,” he added.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to supporting policies and initiatives aimed at sustaining Governor Abiodun’s developmental legacy beyond 2027.
