Families Seek FG Intervention Over Alleged FRCN Land Encroachment In Ikorodu

Three families namely Adegbose, Oluodo, and Sekumade Royal Families have called on the federal government to intervene in a landed property scuffle involving about 106 acres in Ikorodu.

The families, accused FRCN of invading their properties with thugs and security operatives despite a court ruling that confirmed them as the rightful owners of the properties.

While speaking to journalists, Baale Taiwo Idowu from Adegbose Family explained that some families, who don’t have any share in the landed properties informed FRCN wrongly that they are selling government properties, which led to the government agency taking the matter to court.

Baale Taiwo narrated that they had already donated landed properties to the government years ago and there is an official government gazette that confirms the number of properties the government acquired among their properties.

He noted that at some point, the government agencies tried to possess some of the properties that were not part of the original acquisition but when the families approached the court, they ruled in their favour and asked the agencies to remain on the original acquired properties.

“Government collect 151.583 acres from three families but later, we discovered they were using other portion of the properties which wasn’t part of the acquisition and that’s why we went to court. When we went to court, the judge asked for the documents and asked them to remain on the original acquition while we were allowed to take over our over 106 acres. When we were given the judgment, we took the government gazette to surveyor general’s office. They did pillar on the government properties and it was differentiated.”

The traditional chief mentioned the families that informed the FRCN wrongly, explaining that they are doing that out of spite because they refused to join them in a suit some years back.

“Some police officers and some individuals named Asajan, Ajako, in conjunction with Wasiu Esinlokun, Seun Kalejaiye, Wale Shokunbi  alleged have been disturbing us on our landed property.

“They don’t have landed property there, and we know they are involved because they have been in court for years about a landed property acquired by the government. They wrote to the court that they want our families to join them in the suit but we declined because it’s the government property. The court gave us ruling that our land is different from what they are fighting for.”

“After they gave us the ruling and freed us, they looked for what to do to ensure that the community that hosts our landed properties don’t know peace. They lied that we are selling government properties; they have written to several police divisions, and they even arrested some of those that we sold landed properties to and took them to Abuja. They couldn’t nail them for any crime and had to release them.”

The families further requested that the government enforces the court judgment so that those they sold land to will be able to work on them.

“What we want is the enforcement of the court judgement so that those we sold lands to can be able to use it. We want the government not to allow these miscreants have their way. We have gone to Abuja and the police have made us know that it is not their jurisdiction. We want the government to help us stop them.”

Reacting to the allegations, FRCN, in a statement signed by its Assistant Director, Legal, Hindu J. Abashiya, dismissed the allegations as “baseless, clearly false and totally unfounded.”


“The allegations, if truly made, by Sekumade, Adegbose and Oluodo families are completely baseless, clearly false and totally unfounded.
The Land in question was acquired by the Federal Government of Nigeria for FRCN Transmitting Station. The land, measuring 151.6 acres of land, was acquired in 1962, for Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, NBC, which took possession, fenced the Land and erected communication masts thereon. Some of the masts are still there till date”.


“In 1974, the Federal Government acquired additional land for NBC in the same location and all the land were fenced together”.

“The three families were duly compensated for this acquisition, based on the size of land acquired from each family”.
