Lagos Seals I-Fitness Gym Over Illegal Sewage Discharge in Lekki

By Adeyemi Obadimu
The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed I-Fitness Gym, located at Jakande Roundabout, Lekki Peninsula, Eti-Osa, for allegedly discharging untreated sewage into public drains, an act the state government described as a serious environmental and public health violation.
The enforcement action was carried out on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, following the discovery that the fitness centre was channeling raw sewage through pipes into public drainage systems, thereby constituting a public nuisance, polluting the environment, and posing significant health risks to residents.
The development was disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Barrister Tokunbo Wahab, in a post on his official social media page.
According to the commissioner, the state government remains committed to enforcing environmental laws and ensuring compliance with proper wastewater management practices across Lagos.
He reiterated that individuals, corporate organisations, and business premises must strictly adhere to approved wastewater disposal regulations, warning that anyone found violating environmental laws would face appropriate sanctions, including possible prosecution, in line with the state’s enabling laws.
The Lagos State Government also urged residents and business owners to embrace responsible environmental practices to safeguard public health and maintain a clean and sustainable environment.
