Oyo APC Crisis Deepens as Supporters Rally Behind Adegbola, Reject Alleged Ogunesan Imposition

The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo North Senatorial District has taken a new turn as party supporters and stakeholders intensified their campaign for retired Colonel Adegbola, insisting he remains the most popular aspirant capable of delivering victory for the party in the 2027 general elections.





The supporters, who spoke through various groups and online platforms, rejected what they described as attempts to impose Mrs. Hannah Ogunesan on the party, warning that such a move could deepen divisions within the APC and jeopardise its electoral fortunes in Oyo North.





According to the aggrieved members, Adegbola enjoys widespread acceptance across the 13 local government areas of the district due to his grassroots engagement, accessibility and longstanding relationship with party faithful.





They argued that the APC must reward popularity, competence and loyalty rather than political patronage if it hopes to retain the senatorial seat and strengthen its chances in the 2027 elections.





“The APC cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of previous election cycles. Our members are united behind Adegbola because he is the aspirant with the broadest grassroots support and the capacity to unite the party,” one stakeholder said.





The supporters further appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the National Working Committee (NWC) and the party’s national leadership to carefully review developments in Oyo North and ensure that internal democracy prevails.





They maintained that ignoring the concerns of party members could trigger widespread apathy and internal resistance during the general election.





The latest development comes amid growing dissatisfaction among some APC stakeholders over the conduct of the party’s senatorial primary, with several groups calling for reconciliation and a transparent review of the process.




Supporters of Adegbola insist that the party still has an opportunity to rebuild confidence by listening to its grassroots and ensuring that merit, popularity and acceptability remain the guiding principles in selecting candidates.




Political observers say how the APC resolves the growing discontent in Oyo North could significantly influence its fortunes in the district ahead of the 2027 polls.
