Abeokuta Harmony Lions Club Transforms UAMC Primary School, Ijemo
The Abeokuta Harmony Lions Club, District 404B3 Nigeria, led by Lion Amb. Abiodun Christianah Adebare, has made a significant impact on the United African Methodist Church (UAMC) Primary School, Ijemo, Abeokuta, through extensive renovations and donations of essential school materials.
This project, undertaken in commemoration of the 2025/2026 Lion Service year, saw the renovation of five blocks of classrooms and the distribution of numerous educational supplies.
The club donated 100 school bags, 25 pairs of school sandals, 100 exercise books, 25 mathematical sets, and 50 pairs of socks to the students.
While speaking with reporters, the President, Lion Christianah Adebare shared her personal motivation for the project, stating that before she was elected, she had the vision to cater for school children needs in terms of donating materials to them, because she never had a school bag during her days in primary and secondary schools.
She emphasized the importance of providing relief materials to students and urged the government to increase its investment in the education sector. Adebare also highlighted her tenure’s achievements in community support, including health awareness campaigns and free medical outreach programs.
“Before I assumed this office, I have been wanting to cater for school children, because I went to a public school myself, and while Iwas in school, I never had a new school bag. So, I made a point of call and duty to cater for one thousand school children.
“We are providing one thousand school bags, two hundred shoes, a lot of bigs notes and others. My tenure is ending on June 30th, being a Lion Service Year, so we’re using this school to round up all activities, by giving them some materials, and renovation and painting of five blocks of classrooms.
“Like we all know, the government can not do it alone, we have to use our little resources to support the government. We’ve been to about 200 schools, and we can see what is going on their. The government is trying, we can’t wait for them to do everything, so we can as well assist them,” the President said.
She then urged other organizations to emulate their vision and helping the less priviledges within the society.
The District Governor 404B3, Lion Adelaja Adeleye elaborated on the global reach of Lions Club International, describing it as the world’s largest humanitarian organization with eight global focus areas, including hunger relief, diabetes, cancer, environmental protection, and disaster relief.
“Our motto is ‘we serve’, and we always tell ourselves that where there is a need, there is lion, and where there’s a lion, we will alwas provide a solution.
“We have eight global courses, among which are relieiving hunger, diabetes, cancer, environment, vision and disaster relieve. We are community based, and we do critical assessment on what the people need, and provide them.
“There’s free education, because these students are not paying tuition, but yet, things are tight, a lot of parent are suffering, the government can not do it alone. We support both the parent and government.”
He stressed that while education is free, government efforts alone are insufficient, making the club’s support crucial.
In his own speech, Lion Fatai Ogundele pledged to continue the club’s impactful work, announcing that his administration will prioritize the health sector and assist underprivileged individuals in various hospitals.
Mrs. Kareem Nasimot Ayomilun, the headteacher of UAMC Primary School, expressed profound gratitude to the Abeokuta Harmony Lions Club. “She was very happy when they told her,” Mrs. Kareem said, urging other clubs and associations to emulate the commendable efforts of the Abeokuta Harmony Lions Club.
Also present at the presentation were other Lion members, Barrister Tosin Taiwo (MJF, NLCF), Akinyemi Jackson (MJF, NLCF), among others.
