Veteran Broadcaster And Ibadan Chief Lekan Alabi Dies At 76


Renowned journalist, author and respected Ibadan traditional titleholder, Chief Lekan Alabi, has passed away at the age of 76.
Alabi, who held the prestigious title of Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, reportedly died on Saturday morning in Lagos after a brief illness.
His passing was confirmed in a statement released by Adeola Oloko, media aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.
According to the statement, the late elder statesman will be laid to rest on Sunday in line with Islamic rites.


Chief Alabi enjoyed a distinguished career in journalism and public service, serving as press secretary to several former governors of Oyo State. Over the years, he earned widespread respect for his contributions to media practice, public communication and the preservation of Ibadan’s history and cultural heritage.


Beyond journalism, he was a prolific writer and a prominent figure in traditional and civic affairs, making significant contributions to the growth of Ibadanland and Oyo State.

Tributes are expected from political leaders, media professionals, traditional institutions and admirers across the country as news of his death continues to draw reactions.


Funeral arrangements are expected to be conducted in accordance with Islamic traditions.
