Customs’ Two-Month Revenue Hits N1.38tn
The Nigeria Customs Service generated N1.38 trillion in revenue between July and August 2026, recording a significant increase in collections amid intensified border enforcement, improved trade facilitation and greater use of technology.
The National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Deputy Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, disclosed this on Tuesday at the joint security agencies spokespersons’ press briefing in Abuja.
According to Maiwada, the Service generated N784.65 billion in July and N595.58 billion in August, bringing its combined revenue for the two-month period to N1.38 trillion. He also disclosed that the Apapa Area Command recorded its highest-ever monthly revenue of N323 billion in July, before setting another record with a single-day collection of N28.1 billion on August 18.
On trade facilitation, Maiwada said the Service processed 90,985 Single Goods Declarations during the period, comprising 55,731 in July and 35,254 in August. The Service also processed 8,873 Pre-Arrival Assessment Reports within the two months.
He further disclosed that export activities at the Lilypond Export Command recorded $792.57 million in the second quarter of 2026, representing a 24.35 per cent increase from the $599.60 million recorded during the corresponding period in 2025. Agricultural exports rose to $422.09 million, while manufactured goods reached $350.67 million, with export container throughput increasing to 5,510.
Maiwada added that Customs enforcement operations across its Area Commands and Federal Operations Units resulted in the seizure of smuggled goods with a combined Duty Paid Value of more than N61.3 billion. Among the seizures were petroleum products, rice, sugar, cannabis, controlled tablets, expired noodles, cigarettes and other prohibited items.
He said the Service would continue to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies while deploying technology and intelligence-driven strategies to improve revenue generation, curb smuggling and support Nigeria’s economic and national security objectives.
