Interswitch Backs MIPAN AGM, Calls For Bold Reinvention In The Business Of Media

Interswitch Group, one of Africa’s leading integrated payments and digital commerce companies, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the growth and evolution of Nigeria’s media ecosystem as a proud sponsor of the Media Independent Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MIPAN) Annual General Meeting.

The event which took place in Ogun State, under the theme “Monetising Tomorrow: Outpacing Disruption, Capturing Growth, provided a timely platform for industry leaders and practitioners to interrogate the forces reshaping media, advertising and communications, and explore new pathways for sustainable growth.

For Interswitch, the conversation shifted beyond the media industry. In its view, “Monetizing Tomorrow” is a theme that speaks directly to today’s world, one where disruption no longer waits for permission, and where the media houses, practitioners, and platforms that thrive will be those bold enough to treat change not as a threat, but as a galvaniser for growth.

Speaking on the partnership, Tomi Ogunlesi, Divisional Head, Brands, Communications & CSR, Interswitch said;
“Infrastructure alone means very little without the storytellers, disruptors and independent voices that translate innovation into trust. That is why we are particularly pleased to support this year’s MIPAN AGM. The questions being asked in this room are not exclusive to media; they speak to every industry navigating a world where technology is dissolving traditional boundaries and rewriting the rules of value creation.”

He stated that the accelerating convergence of media, technology and marketing is already challenging conventional definitions of industry ownership; agencies expanding into influencer networks, platforms morphing into media companies, and data increasingly becoming an integral part of the value proposition.

For brands and their agencies, these shifts are also creating new intersections between disciplines that were once clearly defined. The lines between media, public relations, digital, content, experiential marketing and influencer engagement are becoming increasingly fluid, creating both tensions and opportunities for practitioners willing to rethink traditional boundaries.

Against this backdrop, Interswitch believes that the industry’s ambition should not necessarily be to outpace disruption, an increasingly difficult proposition in an environment where the pace of change itself continues to accelerate, but to remain sufficiently agile to keep pace with it, anticipate its direction and turn it into an opportunity for growth.

This position is entrenched in tried and tested techniques. For more than two decades, Interswitch has evolved alongside Africa’s digital economy, building the infrastructure that enables the movement of value across the continent. In doing so, the company has repeatedly had to challenge its own assumptions and reinvent established business models in anticipation of where the market was heading.

The lesson, according to Interswitch, is hinged on the bigger picture of securing tomorrow’s sustainable value over the protection of today’s revenue.

For the media industry, this presents a compelling opportunity to rethink what constitutes value. As barriers to entry continue to fall and technology enables new players to participate in the ecosystem, traditional media businesses have an opportunity to move beyond established models and explore new revenue streams, partnerships, products and platforms.

As the next era of the media’s evolution unfolds, Interswitch remains committed to supporting platforms that foster dialogue, innovation, professional excellence and stronger ecosystems across Africa, charging them to build deliberately, independently and boldly.
