Ogun 2027: Hunye Backs Tinubu’s Second Term, Vows Full Local Govt Autonomy

A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Hon. Abayomi Hunye, has urged the people of Ipokia Local Government Area and Ogun State to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office.

Hunye made the call on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Tube Primary School, Ipokia Local Government Area, during his annual birthday celebration organised by his supporters.

The event attracted a mammoth crowd, with supporters and well-wishers of the governorship aspirant trooping to the venue from across all the 20local governments in the state for the birthday celebration.

Explaining the reason for the timing of the celebration, Hunye said although his birthday falls on August 6, he was not available during the period, prompting his supporters to move the celebration to October.

He said the annual gathering had become an opportunity for him to interact with his supporters and appreciate their loyalty and commitment to his political aspiration.

Speaking on the 2027 presidential election, Hunye called on the people of Ipokia and Ogun State to give President Tinubu another opportunity to complete the reforms and policies initiated by his administration.

According to him, Tinubu has demonstrated the political will to make difficult decisions aimed at repositioning the country and ensuring that Nigeria’s resources are better utilised for the benefit of its citizens.

Hunye said, “I believe giving President Tinubu a second term is the best way to go. He is trying to reform Nigeria and make sure our resources are properly distributed.

“I have no doubt about President Tinubu’s performance because he has the political will. We can see it in the decisions he has been taking. However, he needs our support to complete the good work he has started.”

On his governorship ambition in Ogun State, Hunye maintained that he remained committed to pursuing his aspiration, saying he was not prepared to compromise his political ambition through negotiations.

He, however, said any intervention by President Tinubu should be in support of his aspiration.

Hunye further promised that if elected governor of Ogun State, his administration would prioritise the development of Ipokia Local Government and other parts of the state.

He particularly pledged to respect the autonomy of local governments by ensuring that funds meant for local councils were transferred directly to them.

According to him, local government resources must be used for the development of the grassroots rather than being diverted for other purposes.

He also promised that he would not take any money from the statutory funds allocated to local governments, stressing that his administration would allow the councils to independently manage their resources in accordance with the law.

Hunye said his vision was to transform Ipokia and other local government areas into centres of meaningful development while ensuring that the benefits of government reached the grassroots.

He urged his supporters and the people of Ogun State to remain united and committed to the pursuit of a new political direction for the state.
