GIZ Honours Ogun for Expanding Agricultural Finance Access
The Ogun State Government has received international recognition for its sustained partnership and contribution to expanding access to agricultural finance for farmers and agribusinesses across the state.
The recognition was conferred on the Ogun State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security under the Global Project “Promotion of Agricultural Finance for Agri-based Enterprises in Rural Areas” (GP AgFin Nigeria), implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The award, presented alongside a Certificate of Appreciation, acknowledged the Ministry’s commitment to promoting appropriate and tailored financial services for farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs.
In the certificate signed by the Head of the GP AgFin Nigeria Project, Mrs. Ruskiyat Badmus, GIZ expressed appreciation to the Ministry for its sustained support and collaboration in advancing access to appropriate agricultural financial services.
The recognition followed the Ministry’s collaboration with the GP AgFin Nigeria Project, which ran from January 2018 to October 2026, to strengthen financial inclusion within the agricultural sector and improve opportunities for farmers and agribusinesses to access financing suited to their specific needs.
The partnership has contributed to efforts to address one of the major constraints to agricultural expansion—the difficulty faced by farmers and agri-based enterprises in securing affordable and appropriate financing to increase production, processing and other value-chain activities.
The recognition is also a reflection of Ogun State’s broader approach to agriculture as a key component of economic development, with emphasis not only on food production but also on strengthening the financial and institutional ecosystem required to make agriculture more productive, competitive and sustainable.
By fostering partnerships with development institutions and other stakeholders, the state has continued to promote an agricultural environment in which farmers and agribusiness entrepreneurs can access opportunities to expand their businesses, create employment and contribute more significantly to food security and economic growth.
The GIZ recognition therefore underscores the importance of sustained collaboration between government and development partners in building a stronger agricultural economy in Ogun State.
