2027: Ogun West Must Break 50-Year Jinx With Yayi — Chief Odunaro

As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, the Chief of Staff to the Senator representing Ogun West, High Chief Kayode Odunaro, has called on indigenes and residents of the senatorial district to unite behind the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi in his quest to be the governor of the state.

Odunaro made the call during a ward meeting and grassroots mobilisation exercise held at Ilaro Ward 2, Igbo-Ewe, in Yewa South Local Government Area, where he received a rousing welcome from party members and supporters.

Speaking at the meeting, Odunaro recalled his first encounter with Adeola over 14 years ago, saying the senator had demonstrated consistent commitment to the development of Ogun West and the state at large.

He cited Adeola’s crucial role in the transformation of the Oronna Ilaro Festival into a nationally and internationally recognised cultural tourism event, as well as his efforts that catapulted the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to a Federal University of Technology. He also pointed out the delivery of several infrastructure, such as roads, ultra modern markets, health facilities, school buildings among other development initiatives that remains unprecedented in the history of Ogun State for a legislator.

According to him, the senator’s various empowerment programmes and projects across Ogun West and other senatorial districts of the state were evidence of his commitment to improving the lives of the people and not propaganda.

Odunaro argued that, in the spirit of fairness and equity, it was time for Ogun West to produce the next governor of the state, noting that the region had waited for over five decades to have the welcome opportunity.

He therefore urged party members to commence intensive grassroots mobilisation for Adeola ahead of the campaign and election adding that the campaign should extend from house to house and junction to junction to ensure maximum unprecedented vote for the senator.

The APC chieftain also urged the people of Ilaro and Ogun West to vote massively for Adeola and other APC candidates, while expressing confidence that the people of Ilaro would massively support the Yayi candidacy.

“ I am sure all of us here are for Yayi. But we need to convince many more people that Yayi is the best man for the job on basis of proven competence, integrity, equity and fair play” Odunaro stated.

Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Honourable Bankole Sherifdeen Olarenwaju, reaffirmed his commitment to mobilising support for Adeola and called for broad-based support for the APC candidate across Ogun State.

He added that the local government was complementing the developmental efforts of both the senator and the state government.

In his remarks, former Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Alhaji Sunmola Kayode Adewale, said the longstanding aspiration of Ogun West to produce a governor could be achieved through the emergence of Adeola in 2027.

“ I am a long standing member of PDP but I made a vow that once Yayi is chosen as the candidate I will join his team. I did. I urged every to reject the ponzi antics of the opposition of one person bringing 3 persons and support Yayi fully” he stated.

He described the APC candidate as the person capable of breaking what he termed the senatorial districts 50-year political jinx.

The ward meeting is part of ongoing grassroots mobilisation efforts as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 governorship election.

Among other ward leaders of the ward present were El-Haj Abu Satre, publisher of Startrend Magazine, Mr. Leke Ibikunle, Mr. Salami Rasheed, leaders of people with special needs and Mr. Onwugbufor Ejike, the Youth leader of the ward.
