21 Months After Flight Cancellation, Kaduna Resident Still Awaiting N189,805 Refund From Dana Air
A Kaduna State resident, identified as Ada Sanusi (real name withheld), is still chasing a refund of N189,805 from Dana Air, 21 months after the airline cancelled her flight.
Sanusi had booked a round trip between Abuja and Lagos on December 5, 2023, with the first leg scheduled for December 15 and the return trip for December 17. However, on December 12, Dana Air notified her via email that both flights had been cancelled “due to operational reasons.”
Following the cancellation, Sanusi immediately began the refund process as instructed by the airline. Nearly two years later, she is yet to receive her money despite repeated follow-ups.
“My Dana Air ticket refund has been pending since December 2023. The airline cancelled the flight and promised to refund. Since then, they’ve promised and failed several times,” Sanusi said.
She revealed that she contacted the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) after the airline’s failure to process her refund, but her hopes were dashed as the promises made by the authority also failed to materialize.
Between December 2023 and August 2025, Sanusi sent at least four emails to Dana Air, with only one response in January 2024 acknowledging her request. Subsequent replies from the airline claimed refunds were being processed “in batches.” Yet, her account remains unsettled.
Attempts by journalists to reach Dana Air for comments proved unsuccessful. Emails to the airline bounced back, while calls and messages to Kingsley Ezenwa, the former Head of Corporate Communications at Dana Air and now spokesperson for Dana Group, were unanswered.
In 2024, the NCAA had issued a directive for Dana Air to clear its backlog of refunds, but many customers, like Sanusi, are still waiting for their money.
