Police Probe AIG Moshood Jimoh Over VDM’s Corruption Allegations
The Nigeria Police Force has launched an internal investigation into the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Moshood Jimoh, following corruption allegations made by social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
The Force confirmed on Tuesday that AIG Jimoh has been invited for questioning as part of an administrative review, while the criminal case connected to the allegations remains before a competent court.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the police also disclosed that VeryDarkMan had been invited by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, to provide evidence in support of the allegations he made publicly.
According to the statement, the criminal case had already been investigated and forwarded to court based on the legal advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), making the matter sub judice.
The police stressed that the judicial process would be allowed to run its course without interference from media campaigns or public pressure.
“The Force will not try this case in the media or allow public commentary to determine the outcome of ongoing judicial proceedings,” the statement said.
The police explained that, independently of the court case, the FCID was examining the allegations against AIG Jimoh through established internal accountability procedures.
It added that on July 30, 2026, the FCID formally invited VeryDarkMan to appear in Abuja to substantiate the claims he had made against the senior police officer.
The Force maintained that every credible complaint against its personnel would be investigated, irrespective of the officer’s rank, through the appropriate disciplinary and investigative channels.
For several weeks, VeryDarkMan has accused AIG Jimoh of corruption in a series of social media videos. He alleged that while serving as Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Jimoh supervised investigations in which businessman Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi was allegedly framed over the killings of Sheriff Salami in April 2023 and Prince Ademola Akinloye in August 2024 in the Ajiran area of Eti-Osa, Lagos.
The activist further claimed that two suspects arrested in January 2026 initially confessed to involvement in one of the killings without mentioning Akanbi, alleging that subsequent statements implicating the businessman were obtained under pressure.
He has repeatedly challenged the police to release the original statements recorded from the suspects and insisted he should face legal consequences if his claims are proven false.
While reaffirming Nigerians’ constitutional right to demand accountability, the police cautioned against spreading unverified allegations capable of damaging reputations.
The Force also warned that any officer found culpable after investigation would face appropriate sanctions, while individuals making false and defamatory allegations could also be held accountable under the law.
The police urged VeryDarkMan to honour the invitation extended by the FCID to enable investigators to examine his claims, reiterating that no officer is above the law and that all complaints would be handled in accordance with due process.
