Woman Arrested With ‘Colos’ Hidden in Milo Sachet at Ogun Prison
A female visitor, identified as Iyabo Sowunmi, has been arrested by the Nigerian Correctional Service for allegedly attempting to smuggle suspected illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Sowunmi was reportedly arrested at about 1:33pm on Friday during routine screening at the prison’s main entrance. Correctional officers allegedly discovered a suspicious substance concealed inside a 1kg sachet of Milo beverage powder.
The substance was suspected to be “Colos”, a psychoactive synthetic drug. The Nigerian Correctional Service said the package was allegedly intended for an inmate, Dare Sowunmi, who is on death row at the facility.
The NCoS Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Odukoya Olayinka, confirmed the arrest on Monday, saying the suspect was detained and subsequently handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The State Controller of Corrections, Abioye Adesina, commended the officers for their vigilance, stressing that the command maintains zero tolerance for drug trafficking and the introduction of contraband into custodial facilities.
Adesina warned that individuals who attempt to compromise the security of correctional facilities by bringing prohibited substances into them would face the full consequences of the law.
He urged members of the public visiting inmates to comply with all security procedures and respect the rules guiding custodial institutions.
