Postecoglou Opens Up on Ronaldo Factor in Al Nassr Move
Al Nassr head coach Ange Postecoglou has disclosed that the chance to work with Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the attractions behind his decision to take charge of the Saudi Arabian giants.
The Australian tactician joined Al Nassr in July on a two-year deal after the departure of Jorge Jesus, who subsequently took over as head coach of Portugal.
Postecoglou, 61, inherited a squad packed with established international stars, including Ronaldo, Sadio Mané, Kingsley Coman and João Félix.
Speaking on the LiSTNR podcast, The Howie Games, the former Tottenham Hotspur manager said his career has been shaped in part by opportunities to work with some of football’s most celebrated figures.
He explained that being around players of exceptional stature has always been meaningful to him, recalling his experience as a player under Hungarian football icon Ferenc Puskás.
Postecoglou also pointed to his coaching relationships with Australia great Tim Cahill and South Korea captain Son Heung-min as memorable parts of his career.
According to the manager, working alongside Ronaldo offers another opportunity to contribute, even in a small way, to the career of a player widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time.
He stressed that his interest was not driven by personal publicity, but by the significance of being involved in the journey of an iconic player.
The move appears to be working well so far, with Postecoglou making an unbeaten start to the 2026/27 campaign at Al Nassr.
His early performances have also earned him the Saudi Pro League Manager of the Month award for August.
Postecoglou will now turn his attention to helping Al Nassr retain their domestic title while chasing the club’s first Asian Champions League Elite triumph.
