No LASRRA Number, No School Enrolment in Lagos
The Lagos State Government has directed all public and private schools across the state to begin demanding valid registration numbers from the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) before enrolling learners for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The directive takes effect on Monday, September 14, 2026, as part of the government’s plan to build a central and verifiable database of learners across Lagos.
The Office of Education Quality Assurance disclosed this in a statement signed by its Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Adepeju Adeyemi, on Friday.
Under the new arrangement, schools are expected to obtain the LASRRA registration number of every learner and include the details in their admission and school records.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun, said the initiative would provide government with more accurate information for planning and improving education services across the state.
According to her, a comprehensive learner database would strengthen identification and verification, improve record-keeping, support effective monitoring of learners and provide credible data for government agencies to make informed decisions.
The government has also directed schools to sensitise parents and guardians whose children or wards have not yet completed their LASRRA registration to do so before the new academic session begins.
The Director-General of the Office of Education Quality Assurance, Dr Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, said his office would work with LASRRA and other relevant agencies to establish a system for generating and assigning unique Personal Identification Numbers to learners.
He added that registration, verification and sensitisation support would be made available to schools, parents, guardians and learners to facilitate compliance with the new requirement.
Ogunmuyiwa stated that compliance would form part of the monitoring and quality-assurance activities of the OEQA across schools in Lagos.
Meanwhile, the government directed schools to ensure that learners’ personal information is handled securely and confidentially in accordance with applicable data protection regulations.
The state government also urged parents, guardians and school proprietors to complete the LASRRA registration of learners before the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic session.
The development comes days after LASRRA warned its registration agents against demanding payment from residents, stressing that the registration exercise remains free.
The agency’s General Manager, Bilikis Adebiyi-Abiola, had urged residents to report any registration agent who requests money for the exercise.
