INEC Names Muhammad Nami As PDP Governorship Candidate In Niger

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has listed Malam Muhammad Nami as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the February 6, 2027 governorship election in Niger State.

Nami’s name appeared among the 15 governorship candidates published on INEC’s final list for the forthcoming election, according to a statement issued by the Muhammad Nami Media Directorate in Minna.

The development has triggered excitement among Nami’s supporters, who described the listing as a significant step towards his participation in the 2027 governorship race.

The media directorate said INEC’s publication had confirmed Nami’s candidacy and argued that he was not affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment involving the electoral commission.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published its final list of gubernatorial candidates for the February 6, 2027 governorship election and listed Mallam Muhammad Nami as the Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State,” the statement said.

It urged Nami’s supporters to take advantage of the ongoing Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) collection exercise to prepare for the election.

The directorate called on eligible voters to collect their PVCs and participate in the poll, expressing confidence that a PDP victory under Nami would set Niger State on a path towards progress and development.

Some supporters who reacted to the announcement expressed satisfaction with INEC’s publication, describing it as a positive development for the PDP candidate.

One of the supporters, Mohammed Baba, maintained that Nami remained a strong contender in the race and expressed optimism about the state’s political future.

“Nami is coming, and Niger State shall be great again,” Baba said.

The incumbent governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, is listed as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Other candidates on INEC’s published list include Alidu Mohammed of the African Action Congress (AAC), Mohammed Kpautagi of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Idris Mohammed of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), and Mohammed Adamu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Also listed are Abdulmalik Saidu Akpayi of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Bello Isah Mohammed of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Mohammed Usman of the Labour Party, Mohammed Yahaya Adam of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sani Alfa of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Adamu Ibrahim of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Mohammed Ndarani of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Umaru Larat Aliyu of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), and Kolo Mohammed Aminu, also listed under the YPP.

With the final list published, political activities are expected to intensify as the parties and their candidates prepare for the February 2027 governorship election.
