Adeleke Suspends NURTW Activities in Osun Motor Parks, Orders Arrest of Illegal Operators
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered the immediate suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in motor parks across the state as part of efforts to strengthen security and restore order.
The directive was announced on Thursday after a meeting of the Osun State Security Council chaired by the governor.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the state government said the decision followed a comprehensive review of the prevailing security situation and concerns over activities within motor parks.
Governor Adeleke clarified that while union activities have been suspended, motor parks are to remain open and continue normal transport operations.
He also directed that the collection of levies in all motor parks be halted immediately, warning that anyone claiming to represent or act on behalf of the NURTW in any park would be arrested and prosecuted if found violating the directive.
“I have directed the Police and all other security agencies to ensure that no individual or group operates in any motor park in the name of the NURTW. The parks should remain open, but union activities must stop with immediate effect. Anyone who disobeys this directive should be arrested and made to face the law for disturbing public peace,” the governor stated.
Security chiefs at the meeting assured the governor of their readiness to enforce the order and maintain law and order across the state.
As part of additional security measures, Governor Adeleke approved the immediate establishment of a Rapid Response Squad made up of personnel drawn from all security agencies operating in Osun State. The squad is expected to respond swiftly to any security threat arising from the implementation of the directive.
The Security Council meeting was attended by senior representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun.
Also present were the Deputy Governor, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, and the Special Adviser on Security Matters.
The state government said the measures are aimed at preserving peace, preventing breakdown of law and order, and ensuring the safety of residents across Osun State.
