Adeleke Wins Second Term as Osun Governor, Defeats APC’s Oyebamiji
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been declared the winner of the August 15, 2026 governorship election after securing the highest number of votes across the state.
The State Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, declared Adeleke the winner at about 7:24am on Sunday.
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.
With the result, Adeleke has been returned to office for another term as governor of Osun State.
The governor won in several local government areas, including Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo and Osogbo.
Oyebamiji, meanwhile, secured victory in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun.
The ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third in the election.
According to the figures announced by the returning officer, 1,010,684 voters were accredited, while the total valid votes stood at 985,079. The total votes cast were 1,005,800, with 20,721 votes recorded as rejected.
After the results from the various local government areas had been collated and signed by agents of the participating political parties, Ogunwole formally declared Adeleke the winner.
He said Adeleke had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore declared the winner and returned elected.
The outcome sparked celebrations among Adeleke’s supporters in parts of the state, particularly in Osogbo, as the governor secured another mandate to lead Osun State.
