Anthony Joshua Involved In Ogun Road Crash, Two Feared Dead
World-renowned heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, was on Monday involved in a serious road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Makun area of Ogun State, leaving two persons dead.
The accident, which occurred around 11am, involved a Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and a stationary truck near Danco Filling Station, Makun, before the Sagamu Interchange inward Ibadan axis.
Eyewitnesses told PUNCH Online that the Lexus Jeep, with registration number KRD 850 HN, was part of a two-vehicle convoy, with a Pajero SUV trailing behind as security backup.
According to an eyewitness, Adeniyi Orojo, Joshua was seated at the back of the Lexus behind the driver, alongside another passenger, while two others occupied the front seats.
“It was a two-vehicle convoy. Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another person beside him, while a passenger sat beside the driver. After the crash, other eyewitnesses and I assisted in the rescue before officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived,” Orojo said.
He added that two occupants of the Lexus the passenger beside the driver and the person seated next to Joshua died on the spot, while Joshua and one other person sustained injuries.
Joshua was later rescued from the wreckage and rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention. His injuries were described as minor.
Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the crash had been reported to the command.
“Two persons died, while Anthony Joshua and one other victim have been hospitalised and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital that will not be disclosed,” he said.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were also seen at the scene managing traffic and conducting preliminary investigations.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation, while fans across social media have continued to express concern and goodwill messages for the boxing star.
Further updates on Joshua’s condition are expected as investigations continue.
