APC Grassroots in Yaba Reject Imposition Of Adebayo Adefuye as LCDA Chairmanship Candidate: Demand Democratic Process And Indigenous Representation

The grassroots members and concerned stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have once again taken to the streets in a peaceful protest to express their strong rejection of the alleged imposition of Hon. Adebayo Adefuye as the party’s chairmanship candidate for Yaba LCDA.

This protest, which marks the third demonstration staged by the group, was led by prominent APC stalwart and respected voice in the community, Hon. Olorunnimbe Ismail. Speaking to reporters during the demonstration, Hon. Ismail called on party leaders at both the state and local levels to “do the right thing” by allowing a free, fair, and transparent candidate selection process that reflects the will of the people of Yaba.

“We totally condemn the imposition of Adebayo Adefuye. He is not better than any of the aspirants contesting here in Yaba LCDA. He is not from this locality he hails from Somolu Local Government and is not a resident of Yaba,” Hon. Ismail declared. “We are here because our voices must be heard, and we reject this injustice. This is our third protest, and we will not stop until our leaders listen to what the masses are saying.”



Key Concerns Raised by Protesters:

1. Non-Indigene Concerns: Protesters emphasized that Adebayo Adefuye is originally from Somolu and has no established residency in Yaba LCDA, which disqualifies him from representing the interests of the Yaba people effectively.


2. Recent Political Appointment: Adefuye was recently reappointed as a board member of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), a position protesters believe already grants him ample political influence. They argue that parachuting him into the chairmanship race sidelines hardworking local aspirants who have consistently contributed to party growth at the grassroots level.


3. Lack of Inclusivity in the Selection Process: Stakeholders lament the lack of consultation and transparency in the decision to back Adefuye, calling it an imposition that runs contrary to the democratic ideals the APC stands for.


4. Call for Indigenous Representation: Protesters stressed the need for a leader who truly understands the needs of Yaba LCDA and who lives among its people—a leader who will prioritize the area’s development and welfare.



A Cry for Justice and Fair Play

“We are not against the individual per se,” one protester noted, “but against the system of imposition. Our community has capable, committed, and qualified aspirants who are from here, who know the terrain, the people, and our challenges. Imposing an outsider, no matter his credentials, is an insult to our intelligence and loyalty to the party.”

The protesters carried placards bearing messages such as:

“No to imposition in Yaba!”

“Respect Yaba APC grassroots!”

“We demand fairness and transparency!”

“Adefuye is from Somolu, not Yaba!”


Conclusion and Demands

The Yaba APC stakeholders are calling on the state party leadership, including key decision-makers at the Lagos APC Secretariat, to immediately review and revoke any endorsement of Hon. Adefuye’s candidacy in the interest of party unity and grassroots confidence.

They reaffirmed their loyalty to the APC and its vision but warned that continued disregard for their demands could result in voter apathy, discontent, and possible electoral losses in future polls.

“Our message is simple,” Hon. Olurunibe Ismail concluded. “Let the right thing be done. Let the right candidate emerge through democratic means. Let the people of Yaba decide their future.”
