Legal practitioner and public affairs commentator, George Ogunjimi Esq., popularly known as the Bamofin of Ojo Kingdom, Lagos, has described Barrister Barakat Olawunmi Odunuga-Bakare as “a brilliant daughter of the soil whose political growth and professional excellence continue to inspire many across Lagos State.”
In a statement seen on his Facebook page on Monday, Ogunjimi praised the former Special Adviser on Housing to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for her outstanding contributions to grassroots politics, governance, and legal practice.
According to him, Barr. Barakat Odunuga-Bakare’s political journey from serving as Councillor representing Ward E1 in Surulere to becoming the House Leader of the Surulere Local Government Legislative Arm reflects her consistency, dedication, and passion for public service.
Ogunjimi further noted that her appointment into the Lagos State Executive Council as Special Adviser on Housing between 2023 and 2026 was a testament to her competence and leadership qualities. He added that her supervisory role over the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Agency (LASRERA) contributed significantly to the development and regulation of the housing sector in the state.
The respected legal practitioner also highlighted her impressive legal background as a dual-qualified Nigerian and British lawyer with over 12 years of experience at the Bar, describing her as a worthy ambassador of Surulere and Lagos State.
Speaking emotionally, Ogunjimi recalled his personal relationship with the late Jelili Bakare, uncle to the APC chieftain, stating that witnessing Barakat Odunuga-Bakare’s political rise brings him immense joy and pride.
“She represents excellence, intelligence, humility, and progressive leadership. Lagos needs more individuals like her in public office,” he stated.
Barr. Barakat Olawunmi Odunuga-Bakare is currently aspiring to represent Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
