Enugu Air Aircraft Veers Off Runway at Benin Airport, No Casualties Recorded
An aircraft operated by Enugu Air on Thursday veered off the runway after landing at Benin Airport in Edo State, causing a temporary scare but leaving all passengers and crew members unharmed.
The airline confirmed that everyone on board was safely evacuated, adding that no injuries or fatalities were recorded in the incident.
In a statement issued after the occurrence, Enugu Air described the event as a runway excursion, explaining that the aircraft left the runway shortly after touchdown.
According to the airline, the aircraft has since been secured while the appropriate aviation authorities have been informed in line with standard safety procedures.
“The aircraft experienced a runway excursion after landing at Benin Airport today. All passengers and crew members safely disembarked, and there were no injuries or casualties,” the statement said.
The carrier noted that preliminary assessments of the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the incident have commenced, while relevant aviation agencies are expected to conduct a full investigation to determine the cause.
Enugu Air also warned that the incident could lead to temporary changes to some of its flight operations.
The airline assured affected passengers that they would be contacted directly and provided with the necessary support regarding any schedule adjustments.
Videos shared on social media shortly after the incident showed the aircraft resting off the runway, triggering speculation that it had crash-landed. However, Enugu Air dismissed the reports, stressing that the occurrence was a runway excursion and not a crash landing.
The aircraft involved is one of the Embraer regional jets recently introduced into the airline’s fleet for commercial operations.
Authorities are expected to investigate the incident to establish the factors responsible, while airport operations continue under the supervision of aviation regulators.
