FUMMSA,OAU Registars Deepen Institutional Ties

The Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council of the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta (FUMMSA), Dr. Olukayode Gregory Obayomi, has paid a courtesy visit to his counterpart at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Mr. Kamardeen Adetunji Bakare, with both administrators exploring avenues for stronger inter-university collaboration.
The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the 430th Inaugural Lecture of OAU delivered by FUMMSA’s Pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fatiu Abiola Arogundade, also provided an opportunity for Dr. Obayomi to reconnect with his alma mater more than 15 years after completing his Master’s degree in International Relations at the University.

Dr. Obayomi was accompanied by FUMMSA’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olanrewaju Elufowoju.Receiving his FUMMSA counterpart warmly, Bakare described Obayomi as a “worthy alumnus of Great Ife,” noting that the Registrar had obtained both his first and second degrees from OAU.Obayomi expressed delight at the opportunity to return to the University and meet with the OAU Registrar, describing the visit as particularly significant given the occasion of the inaugural lecture delivered by Professor Arogundade.
Discussions between the two Chief Administrative Officers centred on strengthening University administration, advancing the effectiveness of Registries, staff development and welfare, as well as opportunities for professional knowledge-sharing within the Nigerian university system.
The two Registrars subsequently agreed on the need for a mutually beneficial relationship between OAU, a 65-year-old first-generation University, and FUMMSA, a three-year-old specialized medical University currently building its institutional systems and structures.
The engagement is expected to provide opportunities for benchmarking, exchange of administrative experience and capacity development, particularly in Registry operations and allied administrative functions.
As part of efforts to sustain the emerging relationship, Bakare extended an invitation to Obayomi and the entire FUMMSA Registry to participate in the 10th OAU Registry Lecture scheduled for October 14th, 2026, as part of activities marking the University 65th anniversary.
The meeting added an important administrative dimension to the historic 430th OAU Inaugural Lecture, which saw Professor Arogundade, a Professor of Medicine specializing in Nephrology, return to OAU, to deliver the prestigious academic lecture.
