I Have Sponsored 10 bills In Two Years – Senator Yayi
The Senator representing Ogun West senatorial district, Senator Adeola Olamilekan Yayi, has recounted his achievements at the senate in the last two years.
The Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriations disclosed that despite moving motions on the floor of the senate, he has sponsored 10 bills to the senate, not minding the bill for upgrade of federal Polytechnic Ilaro into university of technology.
He spoke on Friday at the second edition of town hall meeting and mega empowerment held at AUD school, Imeko-Afon, Ogun state.
According to him, the bills covered the area of lawmaking which include; Nigeria Railway Corporation Act (Amendment) Bill, 2023″ (SB.9), Federal College of Geological and CementStudies, Iselu, Yewa North, Ogun State (Establishment) Bill, 2023″ (SB.109), Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN) Act (Amendment) Bill 2023″ (SB.265), Bill for an Act to Establish Federal University of Technology, llaro, 2023, Bill for An Act to Amend National Commission for Women Act, CAP N23, LFN 2004, Bill for An Act to Amend the Niger Delta Development Commission Act No.6, 2000, Bill for An Act to Establish the Certified Pension Institute of Nigeria, 2023, National Institute for Border Studies, Imeko, Ogun State (Establishment) Bill 2024, Bill for National Energy Bill, 2024 (SB.386) and, Bill for Agricultural Processing Zones (Establishment), 2024, (SB.367).
He added that the bill on the Chartered Institute of Accountants in Nigeria, ICAN, has passed ‘through public hearing and it’s report to the Senate for passage is being awaited while the bill on Federal College of Geological and Cement Studies Iselu, Yewa North has passed Second Reading and is ready for public hearing at the committee stage.
The empowerment programme saw beneficiaries going home with 10 mini buses, 37 tricycles, 50 motorcycles, 60 welding machines, 80 deep freezers, 28 generators, 61 vulcanizing machines, 399 sewing machines.
Others are; 12 embroidery machines, 85 hair dressing equipment, 100 entrepreneurship Cash Grant, 28 barbing equipment, 239 bricklaying Cash Grant, 542 school bags, 1,428 exercise books, 4,285 textbooks, 28 makeup kits and 168 catering equipment.
Senator Adeola Yayi reiterated his assurance of delivering effective representation as a legislator to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He posited that beneficiaries of the training and empowerment programme were selected devoid of any partisan considerations with utmost consideration for trade groups.
He said the training and empowerment was done in conjunction with federal cooperative college, Ibadan, federal cooperative college, Ohio, Rivers State, Michael Imodu Labour Centre, federal college of fishery and machine technology, SMEDAN, NCAM and National Productive Centre.
He urged the beneficiaries to diligently apply the skills learnt in the course of their training for their socio-economic advancement of themselves.
He appealed that they should shun the temptation of selling empowerment equipment for quick cash that would end up in unproductive frivolities and misplaced priorities.
“As happened during the last empowerment exercise, I have facilitated the requisite training of over 20,000 youths, men and women in the area of ICT and in various skills acquisition and entrepreneurship preparatory to some of their empowerment today.
“It is my hope that many of the participants empowered will be in business of generating income for themselves. Let me state that beneficiaries of these training programme and empowerment were selected devoid of any partisan considerations with utmost consideration for trade groups while some major stakeholders were given opportunities to nominate beneficiaries as deemed fit.
“I will continue to deliver effective representation as a legislator in this area of Renewed Hope Agenda as I look forward to further service for the benefit of my people, my state an nation at large.”
