Kogi Governor Receives Rescued Exam Centre Kidnap Victims, Praises Security Agencies
Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has received the four victims rescued from kidnappers following the attack on an examination centre in Olowa, Dekina Local Government Area of the state.
The victims, comprising a school principal, a National Examinations Council (NECO) official and two students, were welcomed at the Government House in Lokoja on Friday in the presence of heads of security agencies.
The victims regained their freedom after a coordinated rescue operation launched by security operatives following their abduction by gunmen who invaded the examination centre.
The Kogi State Government had earlier announced that the operation was carried out by a joint security team made up of personnel of the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, local vigilantes and other security outfits acting on Governor Ododo’s directive.
Governor Ododo commended the security agencies for their swift intervention and successful rescue of the victims, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
The rescued victims appeared to be in good condition as they arrived at the Government House, where they were officially received by the governor.
Meanwhile, the National Examinations Council (NECO) has dismissed reports describing Government Secondary School, Olowa, as a “miracle centre.”
The examination body clarified that the school is a legitimate public secondary institution owned by the Kogi State Government and has consistently presented candidates for the Senior School Certificate Examination since 2000.
NECO also stated that the school has existed for over 40 years, urging members of the public to disregard misleading claims capable of undermining the credibility of the institution.
The successful rescue has been hailed as another major breakthrough in the state’s ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and strengthen security across Kogi State.
