Major EFCC Raid Dismantles Illegal Lithium Plants in Ogun, 15 Arrested
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 14 Chinese nationals and one Nigerian involved in operating four illegal lithium processing plants in the Ogere area of Ogun State.
The operation took place on October 23, 2026, following thorough surveillance and credible intelligence.

The EFCC announced the arrests via its X handle, revealing that agents discovered unlicensed facilities engaged in the processing of lithium, a crucial mineral for battery manufacturing.
During the operation, authorities confiscated bags of lithium rocks, 18 mobile devices, four laptops, and a trailer truck.
This raid highlights the escalating issues surrounding illegal mining activities in Nigeria, particularly those involving foreign operators.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to fighting economic crimes and protecting national resources, stating that the suspects will be charged in court as investigations continue.
The agency’s recent efforts also include the arraignment of two individuals in Benin for a cybercrime scheme that allegedly siphoned over N35 million, showcasing its broader mandate to tackle various forms of financial fraud.
As the investigation unfolds, EFCC encourages citizens to report any suspicious activities related to illegal mining and processing to help ensure the responsible management of Nigeria’s natural resources.
