Makinde Blasts Tinubu’s Reforms, Urges Nigerians to Back APM in 2027
The Governor of Oyo State and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has criticised the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying the simultaneous removal of fuel subsidy and floating of the naira worsened the economic hardship facing Nigerians.
Makinde, represented by a national leader of the party, Babatunde Tijani, made the remarks on Monday during the unveiling of the APM deputy governorship candidate for Ogun State, Deborah Abosede Akinlade, alongside the party’s House of Assembly and National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general elections in Abeokuta.
He argued that implementing both policies at the same time without adequate measures to cushion their effects placed an unbearable burden on citizens.
According to him, no country, including advanced economies, would introduce such far-reaching economic reforms simultaneously without providing meaningful support for the people.
Makinde questioned the Federal Government’s claims of economic stability, pointing to the rising cost of living, fluctuating exchange rates and soaring fuel prices.
He said many Nigerians were struggling to afford basic necessities, including regular meals, while expressing concern over what he described as inconsistent foreign exchange management.
The Oyo governor also raised concerns over the country’s security situation, noting that many citizens no longer feel safe due to increasing cases of insecurity.
He said the gathering in Abeokuta was aimed at demonstrating the growing strength of the APM in Ogun State and mobilising members across all local government areas and wards ahead of the 2027 elections.
Makinde urged party faithful to remain united and intensify grassroots mobilisation, insisting that the APM offers a credible alternative capable of addressing Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.
Also speaking at the event, Ogun State APM Chairman and Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Comrade Abayomi Sanyaolu, rated the performance of the APC-led Federal Government at 35 percent.
He called on Nigerians to reject vote-buying, obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and vote according to their conscience during the 2027 elections.
Sanyaolu expressed confidence that the APM would regain political relevance in Ogun State and contribute to restoring economic prosperity across the country.
The party’s governorship candidate in Ogun State, Rotimi Babajide, promised that an APM administration would prioritise grassroots development, agriculture, job creation, quality education, healthcare and road infrastructure if elected.
