Negligence Alleged as Cleaner Dies After Being Left Unattended For Hours At Wandel International Ltd
A cleaner working with Wandel International Ltd/TVS Nigeria slumped and died on Thursday morning after being abandoned by the company’s management for over two hours without any form of medical assistance.
The deceased, identified as Kemi Anibaba, was said to have resumed duty around 6:00 AM at the company’s premises located at Plot 5B, Acme Road, Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos.
Eyewitnesses told SaharaReporters that she collapsed barely an hour into her work shift but was left unattended and untreated until it was too late.
“Yesterday (Thursday morning), the woman, a cleaner, slumped while she was working and the management refused to take her to the hospital. Nobody gave her anything, no medication. This is because she was just a low-rated staff member. This was why they did not care about her,” one of the eyewitnesses.
“They abandoned her and they did not call her family for over two hours. So they later called her only daughter who came to pick her up and rushed her to the hospital. A few minutes after they reached the hospital, the doctor told them that it was already late. And the doctor blamed them for not rushing her to the hospital immediately.”
Another source privy to the incident said the cleaner could have been saved if help had come in time, but instead of an immediate medical response, the company allegedly tried to cover it up.
“The woman in the video resumed work around 6:00 AM. She collapsed around 7:00 AM while on duty. In the video, you can clearly see she was still breathing at the time, so she was still alive and could possibly have been saved,” the witness said.
“Shockingly, no one gave her medical attention. They left her there without help, and eventually, she passed away. Instead of raising an alarm or calling for emergency services, they hid her body inside the premises and didn’t move it until after 10:00 AM.”
“The company is trying to keep this quiet, no official report, no proper action taken, and it doesn’t seem like they plan to inform her family or take responsibility. It’s a serious case of negligence and cover-up,” an eyewitness said.
Videos obtained by SaharaReporters confirm the allegations, showing Kemi Anibaba collapsed and left unattended in a corner of the company premises, with no medical personnel or assistance in sight.
She was later seen being carried by her daughter into a commercial tricycle, without any help or support from the company’s management.
SaharaReporters has made several attempts to contact Wandel International Ltd/TVS Nigeria for comment, but these efforts have been unsuccessful.
Calls to the company’s internal security officer, Okwus Sunny, went unanswered, and he has yet to respond to text messages.
