Nigerians Lucky Tinubu Is Tolerant of Criticisms – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said Nigerians should consider themselves fortunate to have President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a leader who tolerates criticisms.

Wike made this known on Thursday while addressing journalists in Abuja, noting that unlike in previous administrations where dissenting voices were met with harsh clampdowns, President Tinubu has allowed freedom of expression to thrive.

“You are lucky you have a President who believes in the rule of law. You say all kinds of things you want to say, nothing will happen,” Wike stated.

The former Rivers State governor was reacting to recent social media criticisms, including remarks by activist Omoyele Sowore and other commentators who accused him of abandoning duty for personal reasons after traveling abroad.

Wike dismissed the claims, explaining that he had only taken time off for vacation, and described some of the reports about his health and activities as false and misleading. He also cautioned against spreading misinformation and urged Nigerians to focus on verified facts rather than rumors.

Civil society and political observers say Wike’s remarks underscore ongoing debates about freedom of speech, public accountability, and leadership style in Nigeria. His defense of Tinubu comes at a time when citizens are increasingly using digital platforms to challenge government policies and demand better governance.
