Ogun 2027: Political Blockbuster Looms As Two Heavyweights Prepare For Epic Battle — Babafemi Ojudu

Former presidential adviser, Babafemi Ojudu, has described the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State as a potential political blockbuster, saying the contest is shaping up to be a battle between two immensely popular and formidable personalities.

Ojudu, in a political commentary, said although the Ogun governorship race does not directly concern him, developments surrounding the contest have made it too intriguing to ignore.

According to him, the 2027 election could emerge as one of the most fascinating contests of the next general election cycle, particularly because of the calibre, influence and political networks of the two leading personalities expected to shape the race.

He said both contenders have significant financial resources and strong political profiles, albeit from different backgrounds.

“Money? Both are loaded. One accumulated his wealth through public service please, do not ask me how. The other was born into wealth and has successfully built upon the family fortune,” Ojudu wrote.

However, he identified the potential influence of the Federal Government and political calculations in Abuja as one of the major factors that could determine the direction of the contest.

Ojudu said the crucial question is not merely who has the resources or political structures to compete, but where Abuja’s support will eventually go.

“If you think the answer is obvious, then you are neither a student of history nor of contemporary politics if, indeed, there is such a discipline,” he stated.

He further observed that both political camps have significant connections in Abuja, creating an unusual political equation ahead of the election.

According to Ojudu, one of the contenders is a protégé of the man who currently holds ultimate political power in the country, while the other is the son of a man who is both a friend and business associate of the same political authority.

These relationships, he noted, could make the contest particularly unpredictable and heighten public interest as the 2027 election approaches.

“So, get your popcorn the largest size available buy yourself a gallon of soda, sit back and join me as we watch what may become the political blockbuster of the 2027 election season,” Ojudu added.

Ojudu, who stressed that he has no political stake in Ogun State, said he is originally from Ekiti State and has no connection with Ogun apart from his friendship with Wale Adedayo and Bamidele Johnson, whom he said people sometimes mistakenly assume is from Ekiti.

He added that Johnson is currently busy establishing his Ogun State credentials.

The 2027 Ogun governorship election is expected to generate considerable political interest as parties and political actors position themselves ahead of the contest.

For Ojudu, however, the combination of the personalities involved, their networks, financial strength and connections to the political establishment in Abuja could make the Ogun race one of the major political spectacles of 2027.
