Ooni Gifts Igboho’s Iru Ekun Security Network ₦100m, Hilux
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Toyota Hilux to support the operations of the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security outfit established by Yoruba Nation advocate, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The monarch announced the donation during a courtesy visit by Igboho and members of the security network to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.
According to a statement issued by the palace’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, and signed on his behalf by Sodiq Lawal, the intervention is aimed at strengthening community security across Yorubaland.
Speaking during the visit, the Ooni praised Igboho for what he described as a bold commitment to protecting lives and safeguarding Yoruba communities, stressing that security remains the foundation for sustainable development.
He noted that efforts geared towards ensuring peace and safety should be supported regardless of political, religious or ideological differences.
The revered monarch also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, business executives, professionals and other stakeholders across Yorubaland to support the Iru Ekun Security Network in its mission of enhancing grassroots security.
According to him, unity among Yoruba people is essential to preserving peace, protecting lives and promoting development across the region.
Responding, Igboho expressed appreciation to the Ooni for the financial support and vehicle donation, describing the monarch as a father figure to the Yoruba people worldwide.
He said the visit was also an opportunity to brief the Ooni on the activities of the security outfit and seek his continued royal guidance and support.
Igboho further disclosed that plans are underway to organise a regional security summit involving traditional rulers across Yorubaland to deliberate on practical solutions to the growing security challenges in the region.
He added that the proposed summit, subject to the Ooni’s approval, is expected to be hosted at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.
