Oyebanji Re-elected As Ekiti Governor, Wins All 16 LGAs
Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been re-elected as Governor of Ekiti State after recording a landslide victory in Saturday’s governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji winner in the early hours of Sunday after he secured 319,224 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Olumayokun Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 40,533 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dare Bejide, came third with 12,872 votes.
The Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Professor Adenike Oladiji, announced the result at the INEC State Collation Centre in Ado-Ekiti.
Declaring the outcome, Oladiji said Oyebanji, having satisfied the constitutional requirements, was duly returned elected as governor of Ekiti State.
The APC candidate dominated the election, winning in all 16 local government areas of the state, including Ikere Local Government Area, the home base of the PDP candidate.
According to INEC, Ekiti State has 988,251 registered voters, while 384,940 voters were accredited for the election. A total of 382,109 votes were cast, with 375,777 valid votes recorded.
Oyebanji’s victory is widely seen as a strong endorsement of his administration and further strengthens the APC’s political dominance in Ekiti State.
Following his re-election, supporters of the governor celebrated across major towns in the state, hailing the outcome as a vote of confidence in his leadership.
