Second Fire Outbreak Hits Redeemer’s University in 2026

A fire incident was reported on Friday morning, March 20, 2026, at Redeemer’s University, raising fresh concerns within the university community.
The incident, which occurred at about 8:30 a.m., is the second fire outbreak recorded at the institution this year, following a similar occurrence on February 3, 2026.
Sources within the university, who spoke on condition of anonymity, noted that since the inception of Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele as the fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor in December 2023, the institution has witnessed two separate fire outbreaks in 2026.
The source also alleged that just last week, a Siena vehicle parked at the Engineering Department reportedly caught fire while waiting to pick up students. No casualty was recorded in that incident.
The recurring incidents have reportedly generated concern among some members of the university community, who are calling for a thorough investigation to ascertain the causes and prevent future occurrences.
When contacted by Newsextra, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed that the fire incident occurred and assured that there was no casualty.
According to him, students who were playing football noticed smoke and quickly alerted the appropriate authorities. He added that the Ede Fire Service responded promptly and extinguished the fire before it could escalate.
“There was no loss of life, and the situation was immediately brought under control,” Adeleye stated.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incidents, while the Board of Directors of the University should closely monitor the situation to ensure the continued progress of the institution.
