‘She’s Objective, Principled’ — Ex-OOU VC Soyode Endorses Ogun PDP Deputy Gov Candidate Kolapo

Former Vice Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Prof. Afolabi Soyode, has described the Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy Governorship Candidate, Hajia Lateefat ‘Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, as a woman of integrity, objectivity and strong principles.

Soyode, who is the Life President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Abeokuta Club, spoke when Kolapo paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Abeokuta as part of her ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Recalling his previous interaction with Kolapo more than two decades ago, the former OOU Vice Chancellor said he had continued to remember her with admiration and appreciation.

He said, “It was about 20 years ago that we saw last. I finished my tenure as VC at Ago Iwoye, April 2006. Even with the passage of time, I remember Alhaja with admiration, with appreciation.

“She was one editor that was very supportive, very objective, and with integrity.”
Kolapo, who used the visit to seek Soyode’s support for her principal, the PDP governorship candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, described the respected academic and elder statesman as one of the illustrious sons of Egbaland whom the younger generation continues to look up to.

She said Soyode’s integrity and contributions to Ogun State had earned him the respect of many, noting that his prayers and support were important to her and the PDP ticket.

“I’ve always known you, our father, to be a man of integrity. We, the younger ones, look up to you. That was why when I was told about your book launch and birthday celebration, I said I had to be part of it.

“Your support and prayers today mean a lot to me,” she said.

Responding, Soyode prayed for the success of the PDP governorship ticket, stressing that as a stakeholder in Ogun State, he remained interested in who would govern the state.
The meeting formed part of Kolapo’s wider consultations with influential stakeholders and community leaders across Ogun State as political activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election gather momentum.
