Argentina, the reigning world champions, fought gallantly until the final whistle but were unable to find an equaliser as Spain held firm defensively to secure their second FIFA World Cup title.

The final brought the curtain down on a memorable tournament jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, the first World Cup to feature 48 participating nations.
Spain’s triumph capped an outstanding campaign in which they combined attacking brilliance with defensive solidity, overcoming some of the world’s strongest teams on their way to lifting football’s most prestigious trophy.

For Argentina, the defeat marked the end of a spirited title defence after another remarkable World Cup campaign that showcased the quality and determination of the South American giants.
