Tinubu Approves Lifetime Salary Package For Retiring Senior Interior Officers

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a lifetime salary package for senior officers retiring from the rank of Deputy Controller, Comptroller, or Commandant-General and above.
The minister made the announcement on Thursday at the 2025 Ministerial Retreat, where he highlighted key achievements of the ministry and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening institutional performance across all agencies under its supervision.
According to a statement signed by the National PRO/Head of Corporate Services of the Federal Fire Service, DCF P.O. Abraham, Tunji-Ojo expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu for his unwavering support, stressing that agencies under the ministry are reaping the benefits of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We have successfully cleared the long-standing backlog of promotions, with over 50,000 officers elevated in the last two years,” the minister disclosed. He further noted that a new system is being introduced, where officer progression will be determined by capacity and performance.
As part of ongoing reforms, Tunji-Ojo announced the development of new training manuals and the construction of a world-class Fire Academy designed to rival top global institutions, including the Arizona Fire Academy.
He also emphasised the importance of mental health in the workplace, pledging the ministry’s full support to officers in this regard.
Furthermore, the minister urged the Federal Fire Service to embrace private sector partnerships, noting that collaboration is vital to improving service delivery, modernising firefighting operations, and boosting infrastructure development nationwide.
