Multi-Vehicle Crash Brings Traffic to Standstill on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Motorists and commuters were left stranded for several hours on Monday after a multi-vehicle crash involving articulated trucks and several other vehicles caused a major traffic gridlock on Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The accident, which occurred on one of Nigeria’s busiest highways, brought vehicular movement to a near standstill as long queues of vehicles stretched across the affected section of the expressway.

Eyewitnesses said the collision disrupted the morning rush, forcing many commuters to spend hours in traffic while commercial transport operators and private motorists sought alternative routes to their destinations.

Emergency response agencies and traffic management officials quickly arrived at the scene to coordinate rescue efforts and remove the damaged vehicles in a bid to restore normal traffic flow.

As of the time of filing this report, there were no confirmed reports of deaths or injuries resulting from the incident.

Authorities had yet to determine the exact cause of the crash, while investigations were expected to establish the circumstances that led to the accident.

The latest incident has renewed concerns over the recurring accidents on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with many road users calling for improved traffic management, stricter enforcement of road safety regulations, and enhanced infrastructure to reduce the frequency of crashes on the corridor.

Efforts to completely clear the affected vehicles and ease the congestion were still ongoing as traffic officials continued to manage the heavy backlog of vehicles.
