Three Students Rescued as Three-Storey Hostel Collapses Near Federal Polytechnic Oko in Anambra
At least three students have been rescued after a three-storey student hostel collapsed near the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The building, identified as Elite Five Star Lodge in Amokpala, collapsed on Sunday night, prompting a swift emergency response from security agencies and rescue officials.
Police officers, personnel of the Anambra State Fire Service, the State Emergency Management Agency, and other emergency responders arrived at the scene on Monday and immediately commenced rescue operations for victims trapped beneath the rubble.
Rescue teams successfully pulled three students alive from the debris. The victims were taken to St. Michael Hospital, Oko, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Authorities are yet to confirm the total number of occupants in the building at the time of the collapse or whether there were any fatalities.
The cause of the incident has not been established, while investigations have commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the building collapse.
As of the time of filing this report, emergency responders were still searching through the rubble for anyone who might still be trapped.
