Nigeria Customs Announces Annual Recruitment, 2026 Job Exercise to Open Soon
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a major change to its recruitment process, declaring that employment into the agency will now be conducted annually to ensure a more predictable and efficient hiring system.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, made the announcement on Tuesday during a press briefing at the Service headquarters in Abuja while unveiling the final list of successful candidates for the 2024/2025 recruitment exercise.
Adeniyi said the new policy would allow the Service to replace retiring personnel promptly while giving qualified Nigerians regular opportunities to join the agency.
According to him, the era of waiting several years for recruitment exercises is over, as the Service has adopted a yearly recruitment cycle.
“The Nigeria Customs Service is moving to an annual recruitment cycle. Recruitment will no longer be an occasional exercise conducted every few years. It will become a predictable yearly process,” he said.
The Comptroller-General disclosed that the 2026 recruitment exercise will commence later this year and is expected to be concluded within the same calendar year, from advertisement to the release of the final list of successful candidates.
He explained that the lengthy 2024/2025 recruitment process was necessary to establish a robust recruitment framework, including screening and verification systems that will support future exercises.
According to Adeniyi, the structures developed during the last recruitment have positioned the Service to conduct subsequent exercises more efficiently without unnecessary delays.
He added that the annual recruitment model would improve workforce planning by enabling the Service to anticipate vacancies arising from retirements and other exits.
The Customs boss also noted that the new system would provide certainty for applicants, allowing unsuccessful candidates to know exactly when the next recruitment opportunity would be available instead of waiting for years without information.
Adeniyi further announced that a total of 3,852 successful applicants had been offered appointments in the just-concluded 2024/2025 recruitment exercise.
The successful candidates include 1,275 recruited into the Superintendent Cadre, 367 into the Inspectorate Cadre, and 2,210 into the Customs Assistant Cadre.
He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to a transparent, efficient and merit-based recruitment process aimed at strengthening its workforce and improving service delivery.
