Nollywood Loses Veteran Actor Ogogo

Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has reportedly died after battling stage-four cancer.

His daughter, Kira Hassan, confirmed the development in an emotional Instagram Live session on Sunday, where she struggled to come to terms with her father’s death.
“My daddy is dead. I can’t believe it,” she said.
The death was also announced by popular television platform Emiralty Africa, which expressed sadness over the passing of the veteran actor and filmmaker.

Ogogo’s death came only hours after his daughter had spoken publicly about the family’s difficult experience during his illness.

During a TikTok Live session on Saturday, Kira alleged that some individuals were attempting to profit from the family’s situation while claiming to offer financial assistance for her father’s treatment.

She alleged that various people had approached the family with requests for money, mentioning figures ranging from N800,000 to millions of naira and thousands of dollars.

“My father is a good father. Some people are even trying to make money with us in this whole situation. Fear God,” she said, while appealing for understanding over the financial and emotional pressure the family was facing.

Kira also revealed the emotional toll her father’s condition had taken on her, saying she was struggling to cope with the situation.
She further spoke about the impact of Ogogo’s illness on his brother, whom she affectionately described as her “big daddy”, revealing that members of the family regularly communicated through a group chat about the actor’s health.

According to her, a message from one of her cousins showed how deeply Ogogo’s condition had affected his brother, who was reportedly worried about whether the actor would survive.

Kira described the relationship between the two brothers as exceptionally close, saying the entire family had been devastated by Ogogo’s prolonged illness.

The actress also disclosed that she had withdrawn from social media because constantly seeing pictures and videos of her father battling cancer had become emotionally overwhelming.

“I don’t know how I will feel. I don’t even know how I will see the world again,” she had said while reflecting on the possibility of losing her father.

She described Ogogo as a loving father who always wanted the best for everyone around him.

The veteran actor’s death is expected to trigger widespread tributes across Nollywood and among his numerous fans, particularly within the Yoruba film industry where he established himself as one of its recognisable figures.
