Akpabio Assures Nigerians of Uninterrupted Senate Activities Ahead of 2027

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has assured Nigerians that political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections will not interfere with the legislative responsibilities of the National Assembly.

Akpabio gave the assurance on Saturday while speaking with journalists at the Presidential Wing of the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. He said lawmakers would continue to discharge their constitutional duties despite the growing consultations, mobilisation and political engagements ahead of the elections.

The Senate President said lawmakers were capable of balancing their political commitments with their responsibilities in the National Assembly. According to him, campaign activities can be scheduled around legislative duties, noting that lawmakers would not abandon the work for which they were elected because of electioneering.

“We are elected for four years, and we are going to work for four years. Anybody who is walking on the tiny rope must be able to do the balancing act. We are politicians, and campaigns will start very soon. Campaigns can be fixed in the afternoons or evenings while we do our work in the mornings,” Akpabio said.

He further maintained that the commencement of campaigns would not affect lawmaking, oversight and representation, as lawmakers belong to different political parties and would not all be engaged in campaign activities at the same time. His comments came amid increased political activities across the country as politicians and aspirants intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
